Diamond earrings worth $769,000 were recovered from the feces of a man accused of stealing the jewelry in Orlando, Florida.
Jaythan Gilder, 32, from Houston, Texas, was arrested on February 26 for allegedly stealing from a Tiffany & Co. store. During his arrest, Gilder was seen swallowing some items.
The man was then transported to a hospital where authorities waited for the earrings to pass through his system.
On March 10, the Violent Crimes Unit of the Orlando Police Department successfully recovered three of the four stolen earrings. The last earring was recovered on March 12.
After the jewelry was recovered and cleaned, detectives returned the earrings to the store, where a master jeweler compared the serial numbers of the stolen items.
“This case quickly turned into a marathon, not a sprint,” said Detective Aaron Goss from the Violent Crimes Unit of the Orlando Police Department in a video shared last Friday (21) on social media.
Gilder, who is incarcerated at the Orange County Jail, faces charges of robbery with a mask and first-degree felony theft. Gilder also has 48 separate warrants that he will face, according to a press release.
